POST: Gay Chinese Stand up to Police Sweep of Hangout, By Sophie Beach, China Digital Times, September 14, 2009
As Craig said, probably not the Chinese Stonewall, but an interesting data point that signals a different social tone--i.e., "uppity" people simply saying they don't feel like the government gets to hassle them on certain things. Respect for the individual's privacy tends to come at the price of healthy disrespect for public authority--as in, it's the individual's turn to declare, "You have no right to . . .."
Expect more and more of this. And yes, it will be an uncomfortable journey for both sides.
(Thanks: Craig Nordin)

Probably worth noting that Communist China was ahead of Democratic India in the Gay and Lesbian aspect of Human Rights until very recently.

Given the massive gender imbalance stemming from a generation of selective abortions, the Chinese government will have no option but to permit, and possibly even encourage, male homosexuality...

Fazal Majid's comments are interesting on the back of India's recent decision to legalize homosexuality. Given that India has the same male female gender disparity as China, perhaps this is an indication of future Indian government policy?
Homoerotic fantasies aside, how does one "encourage" male homosexuality? Absurd!
The obvious consequences are older men marrying younger generation women, prostitution and mail order brides from other countries like Vietnam and Mongolia; all of which are in evidence.
