The Right got Freeman's scalp

ARTICLE: Charles Freeman's Statement in Wake of Withdrawal From Intelligence Post, Wall Street Journal, MARCH 10, 2009

Freeman was a surprisingly uncompromising pick for the no-drama Obama crowd, but I guess he was Blair's selection in particular. It's a job that typically attracts the low-key, which Freeman clearly was not.

One scalp for the Right: hoots and hollers all around.

Obama may just be playing chess at a whole 'nother level, as he often does. If you believe folks like Charles Krauthammer http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,506205,00.html Israel is gearing up to attack Iran by year's end. Whether or not this is true, Obama may well be preparing for the possibility of an upcoming confrontation with Israel's new right-wing leadership over Iran. He would not be well-positioned for such a confrontation if he faces accusations of having installed an anti-Semite as his intelligence chief. Please note that I am not accusing Freeman of being an anti-Semite, but that accusation was definitely being floated by some hardline Israel supporters opposing his nomination.

Does his withdraw have something to do with the South China incident between US navy vessle and Chinese harras?
