Weird day alone. Up around 9, pre-ordered smoke salmon and Starbucks shows up--just about the perfect Sunday morning breakfast.
Spend til 4 pm writing the speech-from-podium I will deliver Tuesday night at 7pm local at DC Politics & Prose. It is a bit muscular, but screw it, I like being rather intense on stage.
I may, though, give in and actually wear my reading glasses.
Then workout and lifts, then shower-up and down to lobby to see long-time mentor and good friend, Hank Gaffney, for dinner. I had sent him my big-text P&P to print out, and gave him a signed GP. He gives me a dump of his latest docs and notes.
We eat somewhere West of Georgetown but on this side of the Potomac. Great meal but better conversation. Seeing Hank always lifts my spirits.
Back to room and I compulsively practice the P&P delivering. First time it's 24 minutes. Too long. So I go in and with my editor's eye (all those 1000-word columns that I polish down to 635 words exactly!) and whack a load. Then I do another reading--forceful and energetic but not frantic--and clock in at 20mins, 19 seconds.
I am getting psyched!!!
Tomorrow's sked:
0830-0900 I meet with Defense News Daily guy--just a conversation.
0915-0925 do tape over hotel phone with "Dave Durian and the Morning Team" outta WBAL-FM Baltimore. Air date TBD.
Then car to WAMU-FM (NPR) for in-studio with Diane Rehm Show. Have done the show twice and loved both, but have yet to do it with Diane. Hoping tomorrow. I am live from 1100-1200.
I then tape an interview with CNN Radio from 1530-1600. It will air in the future--often.
Then I will sit down with the Christian Science Monitor for a conversation.
Then I do a tape by phone with "The Advocate" of WHK-AM (Cleveland), and then a live phoner from 1735-1750 with "The Money Man Report" out of KTEK-AM, Texas Regional.
Somewhere in there I tape this week's show--hopefully--with Hugh Hewitt.
From 2200-2300 (or 10-11pm EST) I go live nationally with the "Jim Bohannon Show" on Westwood One Radio.
Then I crash.
I will tweet this as possible moving through the day.
