Hard to improve on Gates

ARTICLE: A Balanced Strategy: Reprogramming the Pentagon for a New Age, By Robert M. Gates, Foreign Affairs, January/February 2009

Excellent summation of his thinking and his attempted impact in redirecting the Pentagon budget from its heavy Leviathan focus to something far more balanced toward the SysAdmin portfolio.

Hard to improve upon.

The way to improve Gates is to get him a better president, one that will listen to him and provide a balanced military/everything else approach. Mission almost accomplished.

More evidence Obama will make a great president.
Read this politico article describing his meeting with Governors.

Gates gets it! He'll appeal to liberals as well, with interviews like this:

" To truly achieve victory as Clausewitz defined it -- to attain a political objective -- the United States needs a military whose ability to kick down the door is matched by its ability to clean up the mess and even rebuild the house afterward."

Where have I heard this before? :)
