Success breeds expectations

OP-ED: Rumors and riots, By Minxin Pei, International Herald Tribune, July 8, 2008

Great piece by Pei. We see this again and again with China: profound anger over perceived corruption and--far more unforgivable--ineptitude over seemingly small and easily accomplishable matters--stuff that any modern, successful state should be able to manage.

These displays will only grow with China's rising income. Success breeds expectations.
