I bet Kennan was dressed the exact same way when he wrote the Long Telegram.

Matthew: if you haven't discovered the extreme comfort of shorts and socks, you should try it. i even wear them out in public sometimes.
why? because guys like me and Tom, we're post-fashion, baby ;-)
(actually, Tom sometimes writes about fashion concerns and getting tips from the Esquire guys. but not me. i'm all about comfort.)
Lex: good call! let's modify it a little: boxers and dark socks, scotch at hand (Tom's is outside the frame ;-)

I too have my office computer area decorated with child-art.
OTOH I have eschewed the wearing of shiny shorts with tube socks.
Heh.

Tom: I called Esquire and GQ, they are sending emergency teams over right away. Where is your Packer's hat?

That's a recreation of a picture of a young Stephen King. You can find it in the front of the reprint of "The Gunslinger: Dark Tower I." Here is a tiny version of the pic: http://www.penguin.com/darktower/images/photo-stephenking.jpg
Sean or Mr. Barnett should post the original for comparison.
Do I win the prize?!

That's a pretty deep picture. You should put this pic and bio on the inside sleeve of your new book when it's published.
What was on tv at the time of the photo shot? I'm assuming that is a TV in the background.

I was playing a movie on the DVD player. I like to play old movies in the background. I played "Ten Commandments" for days on end when I wrote my PhD diss.

"You should put this pic ... on the inside sleeve of your new book "

I am surprised no one has mentioned Tom's croakies for his eyeglasses. Truly avant-garde style there Mr. Barnett. Can't wait to read the book.
