Water politics in Kurdistan

Indeed, as an Arab in the predominantly Kurdish city of Hasankeyf (Turkey) told me this March, Turkey's GAP project will definitely be approved should the Kurds become independent and their water shut off.

Huh, that's something I've been wondering about for a while. The paranoia of others about an independent Kurdistan makes more sense if a lot of your water comes from that region. The more of Kurdistan you control, the more influence you can exert over the northern ME as a whole.
