Next Friday in Mankato MN & Feb 16 in Chicago on WGN; LOOKING FOR RADIO SPOTS!
Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 6:34AM Tour starts 4 Feb in NYC with discussion, signing and reception at Carnegie Council, then lotsa media.
Then I shift to DC and 9 Feb I do discussion and signing at the US Chamber of Commerce, followed quickly by Diane Rehm (I am 0-for-2 in actually meeting her, so fingers crossed!).
Tuesday is the Politics & Prose discussion and signing (famous DC bookstore) and Wed, the 11th is a noon event at Nat'l Def U. Supposed to be a brown bag, until 125 students signed up, so we shift to big auditorium. I am told the public will be able to access the base and this talk with relative ease, assuming you don't mind your stuff and car being routinely searched.
Thurs I do a discussion and signing at the Boston Public Library.
On all these "discussions," I'm having Putnam make clear to the hosts that I want to do some PPT.
The following Monday (16) I'll be in Chicago for a lengthy stretch on the "Milt Rosenberg Show" on WGN-AM (ABC) between 9 and 11pm. That should be a blast.
I will come in that morn, and am looking for any good opportunity to give a talk in Chicago before the radio gig, so people will ideas--please come forward to Jen Posda at jen@themeritagency.com and she'll coordinate with my PR people. Could be that anytime up to about 7pm. Since I would stay night. possible to do something next morn/noon before heading home.
BIG REMINDER: Open brief (two hours total) in Mankato this Friday, about two hours north of Twin Cities in MN. Tickets cost something. No excuses for anyone who can access and complains I don't give enough public-venue talks. I will be pumped for this one, because my Mom will be coming up with me (so no swears).
ALSO: ANY TALK RADIO SHOWS THAT I'VE EVER DONE IN THE PAST WHO WANT ME ON DURING THE BOOK TOUR SHOULD BE SURFACING NOW TO GET ON THE LIST. WE ARE NOT FUSSY WHATSOEVER AND ARE LOOKING FOR MAXIMUM EXPOSURE, SO PLEASE CONTACT JEN AND SHE'LL HOOK YOU UP.

WGN is not an ABC station - it is independent, owned by the Tribune. They use some ABC news broadcasts. Fans can listen to the station online. In the evening, they may be able to pick it up on the radio, it is a 50K watt clear channel - 720 AM. Web site -http://www.wgnradio.com/Direct to Rosenberg's show -http://tinyurl.com/3yd7u2
Just a few things to keep in mind about Milt Rosenberg, host of Extension 720 -He has always been pompous - he will find a way to say something in German. He has pretty much gone off the neo-con deep end after being liberal early in life. He thinks the two best experts on IR are Mark Steyn and Victor Davis Hanson. Steyn is a regular guest. He tries to interpret everything in a light positive to neo-conservatism. Lawrence Wright, author of "The Looming Tower", was on a couple of years ago. Wright pushed back against some of Milt's neo-con frothings. I doubt that he will ever be back on the show. John Mearsheimer used to be on fairly regularly. That ended. Charles Lipson, also from UofChicago, still is on frequently. You may want to listen to some of the shows from the past with IR guests to get ready for Milt. I stopped listening to the show - but will make an exception for your appearance.
Is Putman or any of the hosting parties planning on taping you like at TED?
Is TED.com on your list?
Go man go!
Dan B and KFAN regularly interviewed Col hackworth, and I told him that since he liked Col H, he'll like Dr. Barnett.

Tom I'm glad you are going on Rosenberg's show and you will most likely enjoy it as it's a venue that takes ideas seriously rather than as 15 second cartoon snippets. Listen to a couple of Milt's old shows from thr Extension720 website and you'll get a feel for the format.
Steyn is a frequent guest but as a pundit he generates new chunks of content more frequently than Mearshimer, a professional academic - who I've heard on the show many times. Steyn also generates a lot of calls because he's controversial and provocative. When Mearshimer has another book or newsworthy op-ed out, I'm sure he'll be on again.
As for George, it is curious that he says nothing about my modesty!
My take on Milt... when I was teaching public school in the 90's he had many shows about education and I enjoyed them and he brought together many viewpoints on people who identified problems and had suggestions to improve it. Since 9/11 he has also had many discussions about GWOT and related issues, albeit with a reactive/conservative mostly neocon bent when he stated his beliefs and views. I am looking forward to the discussion and I hope the discussion does not center on Israel - discuss it in the broader context, but there are many other facets that I personally want to hear. Can't wait to listen!
