By popular demand and direct from the book, The Pentagon's New Map, the digital version of the map by Thomas P.M. Barnett is now available for free download. The map illustrates his cutting-edge approach to globalization, which combines security, economic, political, and cultural factors to do no less than predict and explain the nature of war and peace in the twenty-first century. The map divides the world into two parts: “the functioning core” and the “non-integrated gap.” The core consists of economically advanced or growing countries that are linked to the global economy and bound to the rule-sets of international trade. The rest of the world is the non-integrated gap – outside the global economy, not bound to the rule-sets of international trade. | ||
